Somewhere there's a paradise
Where everyone finds release,
It's here on earth and between your eyes,
A place we all find our peace
Where everyone finds release,
It's here on earth and between your eyes,
A place we all find our peace
Days like these lead to...
Nights like this lead to
Love like ours.
You light the spark in my bonfire heart.
People like us—we don’t
Need that much, just some-
One that starts,
Starts the spark in our bonfire hearts
Need that much, just some-
One that starts,
Starts the spark in our bonfire hearts
But
no matter the medicinal virtues of being a true friend or sustaining a
long close relationship with another, the ultimate touchstone of
friendship is not improvement, neither of the self nor of the other, the
ultimate touchstone is witness, the privilege of having been seen by
someone and the equal privilege of being granted the sight of the
essence of another, to have walked with them and to have believed in
them, and sometimes just to have accompanied them for however brief a
span, on a journey impossible to accomplish alone.
Start close in,
don’t take the second step
or the third,
start with the first
thing
close in,
the step
you don’t want to take.
Start with
the ground
you know,
the pale ground
beneath your feet,
your own
way of starting
the conversation.
Start with your own
question,
give up on other
people’s questions,
don’t let them
smother something
simple.
To find
another’s voice,
follow
your own voice,
wait until
that voice
becomes a
private ear
listening
to another.
Start right now
take a small step
you can call your own
don’t follow
someone else’s
heroics, be humble
and focused,
start close in,
don’t mistake
that other
for your own.
Start close in,
don’t take
the second step
or the third,
start with the first
thing
close in,
the step
you don’t want to take.
